Martin has qualifications in Topographical Surveying and PCSupport. He started his working life in 1979 as a field surveyor for the South African government and army and was mainly involved in map making using aerial photography.

He later joined Shell and worked in the coal prospecting areas of Botswana and South Africa, working mainly from a caravan and driving a 4X4. During this time Martin acquired vast experience with the data capture and calculation processes involved with surveying.

He then joined a top surveying instrument company as a rep selling, demonstrating and providing solutions mainly in the engineering and mining industries of South Africa. He purchased his own PC in the mid 1980's putting it to work with sales, stock and administration tasks. After a diploma in PC Support he wrote database applications for client management, developing this futher to include applications for serial number tracking and warranty control.

As a keen electronics hobbiest he got involved with domestic and industrial security systems and joined a major distributor of security supplies, working mainly in field support. This involved linking alarm systems to security control rooms with telephone and radio transmitters, setting up base station receivers with computer software to monitor the alarms. He also developed and implemented temperature monitoring devices for storage areas at two ice cream warehouses.

In the early 1990's Martin worked for a major software distribution company as the telesales manager. He assisted in the setup of an infobase system, call and voicemail management system. From 1996 Martin has been running his own computer support and consulting business. He boasts a high success rate in providing solutions to some difficult requests from his clients as well as solving computer glitches in the operating system, software or hardware.

Martin's latest venture, after relocating to live in the UK, is to run most of his support operations over a broadband/ADSL internet connection straight into his client's computer. He can then analyse the problems, perform repairs or enhancements and advise on further improvements and solutions.
