Any web site needs to have two things:
a Domain and a Hosting Service.
What is a Domain?
A Domain is a name for your web site and is in the form of companyname.com or companyname.co.uk . The bit on the end is called a Top Level Domain and could also be .co.za, .net, .org etc.
A domain name is registered with a Registrar and the applicant is called the Registrant. It makes sense to use one company as both the Registrar and the Hosting service for your domain and web site hosting.
A domain needs to point to a hosting service so having the correct Name Server settings makes this possible.
Domain names vary in price from £4.95 to £59.95 depending on the name. Typically a .co.uk is £4.95 and a .com is £7.95 for ONE year. (Prices exclude VAT)
What is Hosting?
Hosting is the service used for storing your web pages for your web site. Usually this is rented from a Hosting Supplier who will then provide you with all the tools needed to manage both your web site and hosted email accounts.
Hosting prices start at £24 per year and increases depending on how big your web site is (how much space it uses), how many email accounts you want and how much traffic it has (how many visitors visit the site). Typically most small business web sites only need the most basic hosting. (Price excludes VAT)
We encourage users to own their domain and hosting service. Too many people fall out with their web site developers, who then withhold access to their domain and hosting service.
Reasons to switch services:
- Start a brand new web site
- Move your service to your home country
- Enjoy cheaper rates
- Use a service that gives you more control over your site
- Use a service that provides excellent support
- Transfer service ownership into you own name
We can help you with both Domains and Hosting: whether you have an existing service or want to switch services.
